Turning match day into a Cheetos playground
Turning match day into a Cheetos playground
Objective
As the official snack partner of Varsity Football in South Africa, Cheetos set out to bring its signature playful energy directly into the university student experience.
The challenge was to create standout stadium visibility and meaningful engagement without relying on Chester Cheetah within televised stadium areas. The solution needed to use mobile spectacle, fan interaction and social amplification to make Cheetos impossible to miss.

The activation focused on five key objectives:
- Mass product sampling
- Product sales
- Social sharing
- Brand visibility
- Student engagement

The Experience
We turned Varsity Football match day into a high-energy Cheetos playground.
Rather than confining the brand to a traditional activation footprint, Cheetos became part of the wider match-day journey, with bold, playful touchpoints designed to surprise students and invite participation.
Students arrived in groups and moved between entrances, grandstands, food vendors and fan zones. We used this natural movement to take the brand to them, creating an experience that felt social, spontaneous and culturally relevant rather than like a traditional promotional setup.
From arrival through to the final whistle, Cheetos became part of the atmosphere, creating opportunities to play, sample, share and connect throughout the stadium experience.

The Impact
The Matchday Takeover turned Cheetos’ sponsorship into a live brand experience embedded in South African student culture.
By taking the experience beyond a single activation footprint, Cheetos created multiple opportunities for product trial, fan interaction, social content and brand visibility throughout match day.
The result was a Cheetos presence that felt less like traditional sponsorship and more like part of the action.
We didn’t just put Cheetos at the match.
We put Cheetos in the moment.
